Qualifications

Knowledge, Education and Skills Required: 

  • M.D. degree from a recognized medical school.
  • Residency in Emergency Medicine.
  • Ability to interface effectively with professional personnel.
  • Experience in the care of patients in the emergency department setting. 

Knowledge, Education and Skills Preferred:

Required Certification/Licensing:  

  • Board certified/eligible in Emergency Medicine.
  • Medical license in the State of New Jersey. 

Job Summary and Responsibilities

Job Summary: 

The Emergency Trauma Department (“ETD”) Staff Physician will perform direct patient care.

           

Essential Generic Job Functions (List in order of importance):

  1. Assumes overall administrative responsibility for professional activities during the scheduled shift. These activities will include care provided by the physician staff; general patient flow within the areas; the timeliness of patient care decisions, including the need for admission; the resolution of medical decisions involving more than one service; response of consult services.
  2. Provides supervision of and assistance to house staff in areas of clinical decision-making.
  3. Follows the Hackensack University Medical Center Medical Board Code of Conduct.
  4. Available to nursing and other staff (Social Service, Patient Relations, Case Management, etc.) to address issues related, problematic or operational areas.
  5. Assures that adequate medical records are maintained through periodic assessment of charts during the shift, as well as by regular review of professional policies and procedures, as contained in the Emergency Trauma Department’s Policy and Procedure Manual and other relevant institutional policy and procedure manuals.
  6. Participates in quality assurance activities of both a concurrent and retrospective nature.
  7. Participates in educational programs for physician and other professional staff, as determined by the Chairman.
  8. Serves on various standing ad hoc committees, as assigned by the Chairman.
  9. Will have continuing medical education time to learn major new advances in the specialty of Emergency Medicine.
